Do you know your child’s predicted GCSE grades?

GCSE Maths, English and Science tuition for Year 10 and 11 students, available in Derby, Nottingham and online.

Check their latest school report, progress report, parent portal or mock results. Schools use different terms, so look for:

A school target and a prediction may mean different things. If you’re unsure, ask the school what each grade represents.

What if they could aim one grade higher?

From predicted grades to GCSE goals: mock grade 4, predicted grade 6, our stretch goal 7. Goals are tailored to each student.

Goals are tailored to each student. We aim for improvement. Outcomes are not guaranteed.

Our approach is to understand the grade a student is currently working at, consider the school’s predicted grade and set an ambitious but appropriate target.

We don’t simply set a higher target. We put a plan behind it.

Targets depend on the student’s starting point, needs, qualification and available time. Grade 9 is the highest grade on the GCSE 9–1 scale.

Mocks are more than a grade.

A mock result can show where your child is now. The individual questions and topics they struggled with can be even more useful.

We’ll use this information to help understand where support should be focused.

A clear plan to aim higher.

Review their results

Look at recent mock results, current performance and predicted grades.

Identify the gaps

Identify the topics, skills and question types preventing them from reaching the next level.

Build their tuition plan

Focus tuition on the areas where your child needs the greatest support.

Monitor progress

Use assessments and teacher feedback to monitor progress and adapt the focus.

The difference between grades isn’t just more revision.

Where improvement comes from will depend on your child. These are some of the areas we can focus on.

Maths

  • Gaps in key topics
  • Applying methods to unfamiliar questions
  • Multi-step problem solving
  • Exam technique
  • Accuracy and checking

English

  • Analysing language effectively
  • Developing stronger written responses
  • Using evidence effectively
  • Creative and transactional writing
  • Timing and exam technique

Science

  • Gaps in subject knowledge
  • Applying knowledge to exam questions
  • Required calculations
  • Working scientifically
  • Exam terminology and technique

The areas holding one student back may be completely different from another. That’s why the starting point should be their own results.

A parent’s experience

“The tutors are patient, encouraging and genuinely care about each student’s progress. My child’s confidence has grown so much.”

Mahnoor, parent of a GCSE student
